Our Programmes
Three programmes. Each one a structure for reading and filing.
Quietyears organises its work into three distinct programmes — one for a single household session, one for a quarterly reading group, and one for a year of family record-keeping. Each programme is fully described below.
Back to HomeOur Methodology
How every Quietyears programme is structured.
Every Quietyears programme, regardless of its length or the number of participants, follows the same foundational structure. A publicly available document is placed on the table. The session leader reads it aloud, section by section. Participants follow along in their own copy. Notes are made in a reading log formatted specifically for that document. The session ends when the document section for that day is complete.
This structure does not vary. There are no slides, no summaries, and no interpretation of how any document applies to any individual's circumstances. The consistency of the method is what makes it reliable: a participant who attends their second programme knows exactly what to expect from the first session.
The three programmes differ in their scope — one session, four sessions across a year, or five sessions across a year — and in whether they are conducted individually or in a small group. The method is the same in all three.

Personal Notebook Setup for Records
A guided two-hour session in which a participant sets up a personal notebook for tracking household paperwork through the year. The session walks through how to label sections, how to log dates of public-source updates the participant chooses to follow, and how to maintain a long-term reading log. The session is purely organisational. It does not interpret documents or address individual situations.
What the session covers:
- How to label and divide a notebook into sections suited to household document types
- How to log dates and source references for public documents you follow over time
- How to set up a reading log formatted for multi-year use
- Introduction to the document categories most commonly encountered in retirement-related household filing
Session steps:
- 01Review the blank notebook and discuss the labelling system for sections
- 02Label each section together according to the participant's household document categories
- 03Set up the reading log pages with headers and date fields
- 04Make a first log entry using one publicly available document as a worked example
- 05Participant takes the labelled notebook home; session ends

Group Reading Programme — Quarterly
A reading programme of four sessions held once a quarter through the year. Each session walks through one piece of publicly available material related to national retirement schemes, read together at a deliberate pace and discussed as a group. The programme is reading-focused; the discussion leader points to pages rather than interpreting them. Participants receive a reading log and a printed reference list.
What the programme covers:
- Four publicly available documents, one per quarter — drawn from EPF, PERKESO, or related Malaysian agencies
- Each document read in full across the session, not summarised
- Reading log pages issued and completed during each session
- Printed reference list issued at the end of the year with source pages for all documents covered
Programme structure:
- Q1Session 1 — January or February; first document on reading list
- Q2Session 2 — April or May; second document on reading list
- Q3Session 3 — July or August; third document on reading list
- Q4Session 4 — October or November; fourth document; printed reference list issued
Group size: maximum eight participants per session. Each session: ninety minutes.

Standards
Professional standards shared across all programmes.
Data and Privacy
No personal financial documents are collected. Participant data is held only for scheduling. All records are handled in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
Source Accuracy
Documents are sourced directly from the publishing agency prior to each programme cycle. Where a document has been updated since the previous cycle, the new edition is used. Version details are noted on the reading log.
Schedule Reliability
Session dates are confirmed at enrolment. Changes require a minimum of ten days' notice. Participants who cannot attend a session receive the reading list and log page for that session by post.
Session Size Limits
Group sessions are capped at eight. This limit is enforced at enrolment, not adjusted session by session. Overflow demand is placed on a waiting list for the next cycle.
No Commercial Affiliation
Quietyears is not affiliated with any financial product, insurance product, or fund management service. No referral arrangements exist with any agency whose documents appear in sessions.
Output Quality
Notebooks, reading logs, and folders are selected for durability. The folder issued in the Family Records Programme is designed for a minimum of five years of filing use without structural failure.
